Brittany Kirby

Licensing Intern

As a Licensing Intern at NC State’s Office of Research Commercialization, Brittany works closely with the Licensing Team to promote the commercialization of intellectual property coming out of the University. She is a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Textile Engineering at N.C. State’s Wilson College of Textiles. She is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Zeis Textiles Extension Department for Economic Development where she assists with projects to expand the department’s professional outreach and promote connection within the value-chain of the textile complex in the United States. Before joining NC State, she graduated from Wake Forest University in May of 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics. 
 
Prior to working with the Office of Research Commercialization, Brittany worked as a Quality Engineering Intern for Freudenberg Performance Materials in Durham, NC and as an intern at a boutique law firm in downtown Raleigh. 
Brittany is passionate about the development of new and innovative technologies. She enjoys thinking of new product ideas and new applications for technologies in smart textiles and materials science. She hopes to attend law school to pursue a J.D. and develop a career within Intellectual Property Law.
Outside of her internship and academic career, Brittany manages an e-commerce clothing boutique that she started over five years ago. She enjoys playing tennis, reading, and listening to podcasts.
