The University’s mission of bringing intellectual property to the marketplace drives all decisions and negotiations, and serves as the starting point for the mutually beneficial relationships that grow out of the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT).
At the forefront of the <technology transfer process> is a shared commitment to NC State’s mission of developing products and services that improve everyday life. We look for partners who not only share that vision, but are interested in sharing the financial rewards of successful commercialization – and will do what it takes to reach the end goal.
During initial meetings, the OTT outlines each party’s objectives and needs. If a company is interested in proceeding, the next step may involve a letter of intent or a licensing option to determine use, exclusivity, term of agreement, and diligence milestones. Rights and fees are then negotiated, as is an agreement for royalty payments. An OTT compliance officer will then manage the agreement and reporting requirements.
Potential partners who would like to be informed of new technologies may fill out an <Area of Interest Checklist>. The completed form may be faxed to 919-515-3773 or emailed to techtransfer@ncsu.edu. NC State is primarily focused on discoveries in medical devices, advanced materials, biotechnology and life sciences, and the physical sciences.
