<p><strong>Title page</strong><strong>: </strong>Provide a title page with the name of the sponsoring agency, the full name of the program,  and a working title for the proposed project, starting with &#8220;RPP.&#8221; Identify all NC State principal investigators and co-investigators, their affiliations, email addresses and telephone numbers. For each external partner, provide the same information  for the primary investigator of each partner.  On the title page, also provide the total amount that will be requested from the Department of Education; no details are needed and the amount provided is not binding. Include the date the internal preproposal is being submitted for review.</p>
<p><strong>Project summary</strong> (up to 5 pages)<strong>: </strong>Using the <a href="http://ies.ed.gov/funding/ncer_rfas/partnerships.asp" target="_blank">Department of Education Request for Applications</a> as a guide, describe why the proposal should be selected to represent NC State in the sponsor’s review. The narrative should pay close attention to the Department of Education requirements and review criteria. Principal investigators may provide any information they consider relevant for assisting the NC State panel members in their deliberations, as long as the complete project summary is no more than five pages. Optional: One or two charts or graphs may be provided in addition to the five-page narrative.</p>
<p><strong>Biographical sketches: </strong>Provide biographical sketch for the NC State principal investigator. Additional biographical sketches for the primary co-principal investigators  may also be submitted.  Any biographical sketches submitted should be  materially relevant to demonstrating that appropriate expertise is included and that the project should represent NC State in the sponsor’s review.</p>
<p><strong>Submitting the preproposal:</strong> The internal preproposal does not have to be entered into PINS. However, if selected in the internal review, the proposal does have to be entered into PINS. Carefully review and correct errors before submitting the preproposal because no pre-review will be provided. <p><strong>Limit on number of proposals:</strong> Only one application per university per calendar year.  This limit means that NC State MUST identify its one allowed application prior to March 1, even though there are two deadlines: March 7, 2013 and August 8, 2013.  The principal investigator chooses an NEA arts category (Artist Communities, Design or Music, etc.), and submits the application to the deadline specified by that category.  For details, see &#8220;NEA proposal submission deadline&#8221; below.</p>
<p><strong>Mandatory notification of interest in applying:</strong> Due by 5 p.m. January 24, 2013 to <a href="mailto:limited-submission@ncsu.edu" target="_blank">limited-submission@ncsu.edu</a>.  Provide the name, title and contact information of the principal investigator/project director, other collaborating NC State faculty, and any other partners. <p><strong>Internal preproposal requirements</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Title page</strong>(1 to 2 pages): Provide a title page with the name of the sponsoring agency, the full name of the program, and the NEA-defined arts category, as described in the <a href="http://www.nea.gov/grants/apply/index.html" target="_blank">NEA Grants for Arts Project Guidelines</a>, that the planned arts project addresses.   Also provide a working title for the proposed project, starting with &#8220;GFA, ,&#8221; and include the name, title and contact information of the project leader and co-leaders.  Also identify the source(s) of the required non-federal matching funds, and specify whether the funds are prospective, requested or confirmed.  If the funds are prospective or requested, provide an estimate of the requested funding amount for each non-federal sponsor.  If the funds are confirmed, provide the amount of non-federal funding confirmed.   Include the date the internal preproposal is being submitted for review.</p>
<p><strong>Project summary</strong> (3 to 5 pages)<strong>:  </strong>Follow the guidelines for your project&#8217;s particular field or category, as listed on the <a href="http://www.nea.gov/grants/apply/index.html" target="_blank">&#8220;Apply&#8221; page</a> of the NEA website.  Click on the specific category appropriate for your project.  On the next page under the heading, &#8220;Art Works,&#8221; click on the &#8220;continue&#8221; link.  (Avoid clicking on any other &#8220;continue&#8221; link belonging to any other NEA program.)  Following the guidelines for your specific category, explain why the proposal should be selected to represent NC State in the NEA review.  The narrative should pay close attention to the NEA requirements for the specific category and the corresponding review criteria in the guidelines for that category. From the list of four outcomes, identify the primary outcome and the secondary outcome for the proposed project, and also the  activities under that outcome that you have chosen for your proposed project.  The summary should define the desired achievements and how the degree of achievement will be assessed at the end of the project.  Using the guidelines as a standard, provide any relevant information to assist the NC State panel members in their deliberations, as long as the complete project summary is no more than five pages.  Use visuals as needed.</p>
<p><strong>Curriculum vitae: </strong>Provide a curriculum vitae or biosketch for the principal investigator(s) that demonstrates appropriate expertise for successful completion of the project.  List funded projects, published scholarly works produced with the funding, or exhibits, etc. as appropriate, and identify the sponsoring organizations, dates and, as applicable, locations of the works.</p>
<p><strong>Submitting the preproposal:</strong> The internal preproposal does not have to be entered into PINS. However, if the preproposal is selected in the internal review, the application submitted to NEA does have to be submitted in PINS prior to submission to NEA.  Carefully review the internal preproposals and correct errors before submitting the preproposal because no pre-review will be provided. <p><strong>Project narrative</strong> (up to 5 pages total):  Using the <a href="http://www.wmkeck.org/grant-programs/science-engineering/application-process/phase-i-application.html">W. M. Keck Foundation Phase I Application Process</a> and the <a href="http://www.wmkeck.org/images/stories/downloads/medsci_eng_phase_i_application.doc">Phase I Application Form</a> as guides, describe why NC State should select this proposal for submission to the Keck Foundation. The narrative should adhere to all W. M. Keck Foundation Phase I Application Process requirements and address Keck requirements, starting on page 3 of the Phase I Application Form under <em>Project Summary</em>, items 2 &#8211; 5, and under <em>Project Description</em>, items 6, 8, 9 and 10. Also provide, as requested on page 4 under <em>Project Requirements</em>, one page for a list of five knowledgeable experts in the field who can review your funding request and provide opinions as specified. No other Keck Application Form information is needed.  Provide any other relevant information to assist the NC State panel members in their deliberations.</p>

<p><strong>Presentation requirements:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Content: </strong>The first slide should provide the name of the sponsoring agency, the full name of the program, the cycle for which the preproposal is being submitted (May 1 Phase I application for awards to be reviewed in January), and a working title of the proposal, starting with &#8220;SAE&#8221; (Science and Engineering). Using the heading, &#8220;Estimated funding request,&#8221; provide the total estimated amount requested, noting the Keck budget information requirements on page four of the application form (details below). The total amount provided is not binding. After the title slide, the remaining content should be prepared based on the internal preproposal, and further make the case for the NC State panel to select the proposal for submission to the Keck Foundation.  The narrative should adhere to all W. M. Keck Foundation Phase I Application Process requirements and address all Keck requirements.   Provide any other relevant information to assist the NC State panel members in their deliberations, keeping within the 12-minute time limit.</p>
<p><strong>Presentation scheduling: </strong> Each principal investigator&#8217;s presentation will be scheduled for 12 minutes.  The 12 minutes must include both the presentation itself and time for any Q and A that the presenter wishes include within the 12-minute period.  The sequence will be scheduled as closely as possible to the convenience of the reviewers and the presenters.</p>
<p><strong>Presentation due date:</strong>  Copies of the presentations are due to <a href="mailto:limited-submission@ncsu.edu">limited-submission@ncsu.edu</a> by 12 noon January 10, 2013.  The presentation date is scheduled for January 11, 2013.</p>
