Past Events
2019 University Research Symposium
Purpose and Audience
The 2019 symposium will introduce research scholars to each other to explore opportunities for new partnerships. The focus for 2019 was on opportunities and intellectual challenges in cross- and multi-disciplinary research.
Many problems in science and society are being solved by groups of researchers coming together from traditionally separate disciplines. Intersections between disciplines can open broad new fields of study. This half-day symposium will bring together leading and emerging researchers at NC State to share research results and ideas and to discuss opportunities and problems that can be addressed by joint-disciplinary intersection and collaboration.
The program will include presentations, round-table discussion, lightning-round poster introductions, a poster exhibition and social. The Symposium will highlight examples at NC State where interactions across disciplinary boundaries have successfully led to new ideas and opportunities. It will also provide an opportunity for our faculty who are interested in developing interdisciplinary research to share their work and meet like-minded researchers from across campus.
We are also seeking faculty to present posters describing their work or interest in cross-discipline research. Poster presenters can also request time during a “lightning round” oral session, to introduce themselves and their poster to the symposium attendees. If you have questions please contact Laura Kroeger (lakroege@ncsu.edu).
