In either case, the student\/postdoc will be notified of the disclosure requirements, and they will only be subject to REG 01.25.01 while participating in the relevant project.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n      <\/p>\n  <\/details>\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-ncst-accordion-item\" name=\"o5z72m\"  >\n      <summary class=\"accordion-item__header\">\n        <span class=\"accordion-item__expansion-indicator\">\n          <span class=\"ncst-plus-minus-toggle\"><\/span>\n        <\/span>\n                  <h2 class=\"accordion-item__label h6\">What types of Financial Interest must be disclosed?<\/h2>\n              <\/summary>\n      <p>\n        \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All financial interests and those of the individual\u2019s spouse and dependent children that appear to be related to a covered individual\u2019s university employment responsibilities must be reported, regardless of value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following are examples of what is (and is not) considered reportable Financial Interest:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-72\" class=\"tablepress I have a Financial Conflict of Interest that requires COI management?<\/h2>\n              <\/summary>\n      <p>\n        \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of NC State University&#8217;s commitment to fostering innovation, Faculty and Staff are encouraged to share and advance knowledge through collaborations with external businesses, academic publications, and the development and licensing of intellectual property. However, the university must comply with federal, state, and sponsor regulations related to conflicts of interest to maintain public trust in the integrity of the University\u2019s research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ensure that we uphold standards of objectivity essential for the advancement of knowledge, a carefully controlled and monitored process must be established. The Conflict of Interest (COI) management plan plays a critical role in this process. It is a document that outlines and implements measures to actively reduce, mitigate, or eliminate an employee&#8217;s actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"is-text wp-block-ncst-buttons\">\n    \n<div class=\"is-style-secondary wp-block-ncst-button\">\n      <a\n        class=\"ncst-block__button-link btn\"\n        href=\"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/administration\/compliance\/research-compliance\/coi\/conflict-management-guidance\/\"\n        data-ncst-lightbox=\"false\"\n         target=\"_blank\"          rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"       >\n                  <span class=\"text\">Learn More About Conflict Management<\/span><span class=\"arrow-indicator\"><svg class=\"wolficon wolficon-arrow-right-bold\" role=\"img\"  aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<use xlink:href=\"#wolficon-arrow-right-bold\">\n\t\t<\/svg><\/span>\n              <\/a>\n    <\/div>\n  \n\n  <\/div>\n\n\n      <\/p>\n  <\/details>\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-ncst-accordion-item\" name=\"o5z72m\"  >\n      <summary class=\"accordion-item__header\">\n        <span class=\"accordion-item__expansion-indicator\">\n          <span class=\"ncst-plus-minus-toggle\"><\/span>\n        <\/span>\n                  <h2 class=\"accordion-item__label h6\"><strong>What are the disclosure responsibilities related to Financial Interests when conducting research involving human subjects?<\/strong><\/h2>\n              <\/summary>\n      <p>\n        \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If conducting <a href=\"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/administration\/compliance\/research-compliance\/research-compliance-definitions\/#research\">research<\/a> involving <a href=\"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/administration\/compliance\/research-compliance\/research-compliance-definitions\/#human\">human subjects<\/a>, you must provide your Financial Interest disclosure information to the NC State Institutional Review Board (IRB). This requirement is in addition to the requirements of REG 01.25.01 \u2013 Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment when filling out your IRB application. Please contact the COI Office at <a href=\"mailto:COI-support@ncsu.edu\">COI-support@ncsu.edu<\/a> if you have yet to receive a confirmation email.<\/p>\n\n\n      <\/p>\n  <\/details>\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-ncst-accordion-item\" name=\"o5z72m\"  >\n      <summary class=\"accordion-item__header\">\n        <span class=\"accordion-item__expansion-indicator\">\n          <span class=\"ncst-plus-minus-toggle\"><\/span>\n        <\/span>\n                  <h2 class=\"accordion-item__label h6\">Is it permissible for a principal investigator (PI) on a Prime Award to subcontract with a company in which the PI has ownership\/equity rights?<\/h2>\n              <\/summary>\n      <p>\n        \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Per <strong>Section 4<\/strong> of <a href=\"https:\/\/policies.ncsu.edu\/regulation\/reg-01-25-01\/#:~:text=All%20members%20of%20the%20NC,University%20Employment%20Responsibilities%2C%20or%20otherwise\">REG 01.25.01\u2014Conflicts of Interest and Conflicts of Commitment<\/a>, a subaward<strong> cannot <\/strong>be issued to an entity in which the PI has ownership\/equity rights. This is to prevent the misuse of university funds for personal gain and to ensure compliance with North Carolina state laws. In the event that other senior\/key personnel named on the project have ownership\/equity rights in a desired subcontractor, an approved COI management plan might make it permissible.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n      <\/p>\n  <\/details>\n\n\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"submitted\">Disclosure Review Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Financial Interest disclosures are reviewed by the COI Office to determine if further action is necessary based on the disclosed Financial Interest\/Relationship. If no further action is needed due to the absence of a Financial Interest, the disclosure is approved and cleared administratively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of FCOI\/Relatedness Review<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Annually or Updated Financial Interest Disclosure<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Financial Interest disclosed on the updated or annually submitted Financial Interest disclosure will be reviewed against all sponsored research to determine if an <a href=\"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/administration\/compliance\/research-compliance\/research-compliance-definitions\/#fcoi\">FCOI<\/a> exists.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If an <a href=\"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/administration\/compliance\/research-compliance\/research-compliance-definitions\/#fcoi\">FCOI<\/a> is identified, the COI Office, in conjunction with the Department heads\/Chairs and\/or other supervisors, will recommend a <a href=\"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/administration\/compliance\/research-compliance\/coi\/coi-procedures-and-guidance\/#management-plan\">COI Management Plan (COI MP) <\/a>&nbsp;to help eliminate or mitigate any perception of bias in research.
