4. Champion a Culture of Equality, Belonging and Well-Being in All We Do

As an institution, NC State seeks to ensure an accessible and empowering environment so that all members of the Wolfpack community feel equally respected, valued and supported in every corner of campus. ORI helps the university incorporate diverse perspectives, which are embraced at all levels and in all processes.

Women in Innovation

The Office of Research Commercialization (ORC) celebrated International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month by featuring four women who successfully launched research-based startups: Ericka Ford, Jeanine Fry, Tahira Pirzada and Jennifer Warrillow. ORC partnered with the Research Marketing and Communication team on a feature article and accompanying social media campaign highlighting these women’s journeys as researchers and founders, as well as their companies. ORC’s data show that participation rates for female innovators in disclosures are comparable to those of previous years, with 51.35% of disclosures in FY25 having at least one female innovator.

Office of Research and Innovation Annual Meeting and Employee Appreciation

Each year, ORI hosts the Research and Innovation Annual Kickoff meeting, which celebrates the diverse contributions and dedication of all ORI staff and fosters a sense of belonging and shared purpose. In FY25, ORI welcomed 27 new staff members, honored six retirees, and celebrated 41 individuals who reached service milestones with the State of North Carolina. The “Pride of the Wolfpack” award recognized 15 outstanding ORI employees in 2024 for embodying university values. Employee Appreciation Week, curated by the Strategic Initiatives team and ORI Social Committee, ensured inclusive recognition for all staff, strengthening community and shared values. ORI cultivates an accessible, transparent, and inclusive workplace through an open-door policy, leading to improved trust and morale.
