As chief research officer for NC State, the vice chancellor is responsible for the central units supporting the university\u2019s sponsored research enterprise. In addition, they provide leadership and direction for 13 cross-disciplinary centers and institutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Miriam Hines \n \n\n The Office of Research Development and Operations (ORDO) catalyzes collaborative research and lays the foundation for sustainable research growth. The office drives the development, planning and implementation of the strategic plan of the Office of Research and Innovation. They pursue large-scale projects, manage limited submission funding opportunities and the Office of Research and Innovation\u2019s seed-funding programs, develop NC State\u2019s research infrastructure, plan and oversee university core facilities, provide administrative oversight for centers and institutes, oversee the Vice Chancellor\u2019s advisory committees, promote NC State\u2019s activity and reputation in research and innovation and facilitate collaboration with partners. All units within the office work collaboratively across the Office of Research and Innovation to lead research operations, strategic initiatives, reporting, research programs and events, research training and education, interdisciplinary research initiatives, communications, marketing, web services, and human resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Genevieve Garland Sibyl Smith \n \n\n The Integrated Support Service Center<\/a> (ISSC) provides general business and financial services for the Office of Research and Innovation. In addition, the center provides proposal, financial and administrative support for the Office of Research and Innovation\u2019s centers and institutes, as well as principal investigators across the university who are not affiliated with a college research office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ginger Burks Draughon Alexander Clark \n \n\n Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance Services<\/a> (SPARCS) provides central research administration support. Sponsored Programs assists with proposal submission, agreement negotiation and administration of sponsored projects. Regulatory Compliance oversees conflicts of interest and commitment management, export controls, human and animal subjects protections, facility security matters and research integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kevin Schroeder Mary Millsaps Monique Burnette \n \n\n The\u00a0Office of Research Commercialization<\/a>\u00a0(ORC) protects and promotes university research discoveries and intellectual property through a dedicated Office of Technology Licensing. New Ventures and Investments works with and guides industry partners, promotes capital investments in NC State research and boosts the acceleration of startups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tim Martin Brian Eller Commercialization: Miranda Drake \n \n\n Research Initiatives manages a range of institutional research activities and works to identify emerging and advanced research domains. This unit oversees the 13 centers and institutes administered by the Office of Research and Innovation, as well as the National Laboratories Initiative<\/a>, the Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (LAS)<\/a> and the Quantum Initiative<\/a>. The unit is also charged with strategic research development for national defense <\/a>and security initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jacob Jones Defense or Quantum: Mary Catherine Cole Laboratory for Analytic Sciences: Matt Schmidt \n \n\n The Program of Animal Welfare and Science (PAWS)<\/a> ensures NC State\u2019s animal research and teaching is conducted in a manner that\u2019s ethical, compliant and consistent with the highest standards of integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PAWS is comprised of the office of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)<\/a> and the University Attending Veterinarian<\/a>, both of which report to the Office of Research and Innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dr. Marnie Metzler, DVM Jennifer Dew IACUC Office
