Wade Fulghum named Assistant Vice Chancellor

After a national search, Wade Fulghum has been selected for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research Commercialization. 

Fulghum has served as Interim Executive Director for Research Commercialization since early 2018. He has been with NC State for over twelve years and has been with Research Commercialization since 2011. During his time as Interim Executive Director, NC State’s startups have reached a fiscal year high of 21, the highest in the UNC system. We have had historic commercialization deals, including the largest deal for a startup for Locus Biosciences and the wildly popular licensing of Howling Cow ice cream to Harris Teeter grocery stores. Fulghum and his team have also worked to ensure the success of the Wolfpack Investor Network and the Chancellor’s Innovation Fund.

Prior to his promotion to Interim Executive Director, he served as Director for New Ventures, where he led the effort to launch and support startup companies that are based on NC State research. He brings more than sixteen years of experience advising companies and has served as a Technology Commercialization and Development Counselor for the North Carolina Small Business Technology Development Center (SBTDC), the Assistant Director for the Economic Development Partnership for NC State University, and as a business advisor for the Economic Development Administration’s University Center for NC State. Fulghum has experience as a small business owner, as a startup consultant and in commercial finance and insurance with a Fortune 100 company.
