{"id":1593,"date":"2016-07-20T20:01:44","date_gmt":"2016-07-21T00:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/cmif\/?p=1593"},"modified":"2016-07-24T11:35:15","modified_gmt":"2016-07-24T15:35:15","slug":"a-new-way-for-therapeutic-stem-cells-to-exit-the-bloodstream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/cmif\/a-new-way-for-therapeutic-stem-cells-to-exit-the-bloodstream\/","title":{"rendered":"A new way for therapeutic stem cells to exit the bloodstream"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tyler Allen, a graduate student in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chenglab.cvm.ncsu.edu\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Ke Cheng&#8217;s laboratory<\/a> at the Department of Biomedical Sciences discovered that stem cells can be actively expelled from the bloodstream by epithelial cells in the blood vessels.\u00a0The process is called angiopellosis. Tyler and colleagues used transgenic zebrafish embryos whose blood vessel cells express gfp\u00a0and\u00a0injected them with cardiac stem cells labeled with a red fluorescent marker. The injected living embryos where then imaged over a period of one to several days in CMIF&#8217;s Lightsheet Z.1.
