NC State Among Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Patents in 2015

Raleigh, NC (Jul. 12, 2016) — North Carolina State University is among the Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Utility Patents in 2015, according to a recent report. The report, which is published by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), utilizes data acquired from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to highlight the important role patents play in university research and innovation.

NC State ranked 96th on the list in 2015. The full report of the Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted Patents in 2015 can be found here. The NAI and IPO have published the report annually since 2013. The rankings are compiled by calculating the number of utility patents granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office which lists a university as the first assignee on the printed patent.
