Alex Brown, J.D., Esq.

Physical Science Licensing Analyst

Alex Brown, Esq., Physical Science Licensing Analyst, supports the licensing team through all steps of the licensing process. He evaluates inventions for prior art matters, conducts market assessments, assists the team in working with outside counsel to protect NC State’s intellectual property interests, engages with industry to negotiate licenses, and helps cultivate relations with innovators and industry. His work focuses on fields within the physical sciences, such as Physics and Engineering.

Before joining NC State, Alex worked as a private attorney in his own start-up intellectual property law firm. He attending law school at UNC School of Law, and received his undergraduate degree in physics from NC State, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Alex is a licensed attorney in North Carolina and is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice patent law before the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys long-distance backpacking, saltwater fishing, and cooking.
