Technology Transfer Careers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Technology transfer exists at the intersection of technology, law, and business. Professionals within the tech transfer field work with university faculty and students to evaluate new innovations, develop new patents, market technologies, negotiate agreements with companies within industry, and launch and grow new companies that are developing university innovations to drive real-world impact.<\/p>\n\n\n

Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) is the main trade organization within the technology transfer field. In addition to holding national events for tech transfer professionals, it also maintains a virtual job board for open job postings from universities across the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n

Internships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Office of Research Commercialization (ORC) provides two different types of internships for current university students and recent graduates through its Office of Technology Licensing (OTL) and Office of New Ventures and Investments (NVI) :<\/p>\n\n\n

Licensing Internships<\/h2>\n <\/summary>\n

\n \n\n

Our licensing team within the Office of Technology and Licensing (OTL) works with prospective student interns who are seeking to learn more about intellectual property (IP) law and the assessment and commercialization of new university innovations. Licensing interns are typically law student, Ph.D. or masters degree seeking students, or recent graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OTL typically recruits licensing interns three times throughout the year during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Ventures Internships<\/h2>\n <\/summary>\n

Our ventures team within the Office of New Ventures and Investments (NVI) engages with MBA student, graduate students, and recent graduates who are interested in learning how to evaluate and launch new startup opportunities. Interns have the chance to review the NVI startup portfolio and work with real companies launched to commercialize university research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NVI typically recruits new ventures interns at any time throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creative Services Internship<\/h2>\n <\/summary>\n

Our Creative Services team works with NC State startups, entrepreneurial partners, and internal groups to bring research driven innovation to life through strategic design. Interns gain hands-on experience supporting brand development, visual communication, and creative storytelling for real commercialization projects, contributing directly to the success of emerging technologies and faculty founded startups. This opportunity is ideal for students interested in design, videography, or communications who want to apply their skills in a fast paced, impact oriented environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
