Topics discussed included the different options provided by the OTCNV for sharing research materials developed at NC State with educational institutions, non-profits, and companies. The session explained Materials Transfer Agreements, their purpose, and the terms included in such agreements. Biological materials include organisms, transgenic animals, plants and plant varieties, cells, cell lines, viruses, cell products, cloned DNA, DNA sequences, nucleic acid and protein sequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who owns Tangible Research Materials?<\/strong><br>Tangible Research Materials are classified as Inventions. Inventions are owned by the University if they arise from :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>research conducted using University administered funds, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>work within the researcher\u2019s scope of employment, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>substantial use of University resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Do we need to patent Tangible Research Material in order to commercialize it?<\/strong><br>No we do not.
