By anchoring therapeutics exactly where they are needed, the platform increases drug efficacy, reduces toxicity and bypasses limitations related to absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME). Certera&#8217;s technology originated in the labs of <a href=\"https:\/\/pharmaco.bme.unc.edu\/\">Yev Brudno<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/piercegroup.wordpress.ncsu.edu\/\">Josh Pierce<\/a>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jupiter.bio\/moons\"><strong>Persistence Therapeutics<\/strong><\/a><strong>: <\/strong>Led by CEO Charles Buchen, Persistence is developing Synthnode, an in vivo CAR T-cell platform that generates therapeutic cells directly within the patient\u2019s body. The approach eliminates complex ex vivo manufacturing and could improve access to cell therapies across patient populations. The platform stems from research in <a href=\"https:\/\/pharmaco.bme.unc.edu\/\">Yev Brudno<\/a>\u2019s lab.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.anciliabio.com\/\"><strong>Ancilia Bio<\/strong><\/a>: Co-founded by Dr. Alexandra Sakatos, Ancilia is using CRISPR technology to engineer viral immunity into beneficial gut bacteria. By protecting these microbes, often used as live biotherapeutics, from naturally occurring bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria), Ancilia aims to unlock the full therapeutic potential of the microbiome. The company\u2019s foundational work was developed in <a href=\"https:\/\/crispr.cals.ncsu.edu\/\">Rodolphe Barrangou\u2019s lab<\/a>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Intra Therapeutics<\/strong>: Led by Dr. David Zaharoff, Intra is focused on localized cancer immunotherapy.
