RED Talks

The Data Science Initiative at NC State hopes to raise awareness of the breadth and depth of data science across campus as well as to continue to grow and engage the data science community at NC State by sponsoring RED Talks, Where Data Leads to Discovery.  RED Talks will consist of an hour long, data science related talk from local and national leaders in data science.  In addition to promoting data science at NC State, our aim is to also spur interdisciplinary collaboration through a series of networking events, following the talks, where faculty and researchers from across campus, and more importantly across disciplines, can meet and engage with each other as well as with the larger data science community within the Triangle.  Further, one RED Talk per semester will also include additional activities to promote existing research on campus and cultivate new interdisciplinary approaches.  For more information and to see a list of speakers, see RED Talks.

Data Matters

DSI is partnering with the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science at UNC-Chapel Hill and the National Consortium for Data Science (NCDS) to sponsor “Data Matters: Data Science Short Course Series” at Hunt Library, from August 7-11.  Data Matters is a week-long series of two-day and one-day courses aimed at professionals in business, research, and government.  If you are struggling to stay afloat in the data deluge, if you grapple daily with large, complex data and if you want to capitalize on the opportunities of big data, Data Matters is for you.  Both one- and two-day courses will be offered; participants are welcome to register for one, two, or three classes.  For more information, see http://datamatters.org/.
