The NIH counterpart to the NC State RA is the Grants Manager, so at some point in their careers, most RAs will find themselves in an email exchange with the NIH GMS or GMO. Miscommunications at this stage can often delay grants and cause frustration at both ends. The purpose of this session is to provide an insight into how NIH Grants Managers think – what’s their workload, how do they view grants, and what kinds of assumptions are they making about their university counterparts? From these insights, we’ll discuss some communication strategies to help RAs better navigate their interactions with NIH. Presented by Molly Puente, Grants Coordinator in Proposal Development Unit.
