Some of the most powerful technological innovations – as well as the most complex, daunting challenges – in our society today revolve around, or even stem from, biotechnology.

Word cloudThe Genetic Engineering and Society (GES) Center at NC State University serves as an international hub of interdisciplinary research, engaged scholarship, and inclusive dialogues surrounding these opportunities and challenges.

Positioned at the nexus of science and technology, the social sciences and humanities, the GES Center has taken a national and international lead in examining the technical, ethical, and societal dimensions of the products and impacts of biotechnology.

To ensure its independence, the GES Center does not accept funds from private-sector entities selling biotechnology products or services, or from advocacy groups that take strong public positions for or against biotechnology.

Therefore, your support is crucial for us to continue to be a balanced and trusted source of information and scholarship and to expand our efforts in public engagement, arts and humanities programs, responsible innovation, and research to inform future decisions about genetic engineering.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help support our work.

Friends of the GES Center

We are pleased to announce the opportunity for you or your organization to support our work and become a Friend of the GES Center, including invitation(s) to key signature events. In 2019, our signature event is An Evening with Margaret Atwood, a public conversation with the world-renowned author Margaret Atwood about “Exploring our Genetic Engineering Futures,” on the evening of Friday, November 15. Ms. Atwood will focus her remarks on Oryx & Crake which portrays a future with genetic engineering (GE), as well as other novels in her MaddAddam series and her new novel The Testaments. This event takes place in conjunction with our exhibit Art’s Work in the Age of Biotechnology: Shaping Our Genetic Futures.

Members of Friends of GES will receive an invitation to the Nov. 15 VIP Reception with Margaret Atwood, Priority Seating tickets to the keynote talk, and the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of one of her books. (details under Biennial Membership Levels)
