Matt Hooker is Assistant Director of the PDU where he supports faculty teams in the preparation of interdisciplinary research proposals.  Before joining NC State in 2014, he worked for two privately held businesses and had key roles in preparing proposals in response to federal funding opportunities. During that time he also served as PI for more than 30 projects involving the development and production of advanced materials, including fiber-reinforced composites and multilayer electronic devices. Those efforts were primarily funded by DOE, DOD and NSF.

Earlier in his career, Matt worked as a contract employee at NASA-Langley Research Center where he conducted applied research on high-temperature superconductors and piezoelectric actuators for use in atmospheric sensing and other aerospace applications.

Matt earned BS, MS and PhD degrees in Ceramic Engineering from Clemson University and has completed training in Leadership, Project Management and Proposal Development. He has also authored or co-authored ~40 papers and received one patent.
