{"id":2007,"date":"2023-01-12T11:16:08","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T16:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/research-education\/event\/irb-topical-workshop-using-apps-software-and-wearables-in-research-with-human-subjects\/"},"modified":"2023-02-21T12:51:45","modified_gmt":"2023-02-21T17:51:45","slug":"irb-topical-workshop-using-apps-software-and-wearables-in-research-with-human-subjects","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/research.ncsu.edu\/research-education\/event\/irb-topical-workshop-using-apps-software-and-wearables-in-research-with-human-subjects\/","title":{"rendered":"IRB Topical Workshop: Using \u201cApps,\u201d Software, and Wearables in Research with Human Subjects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/reporter.ncsu.edu\/link\/instanceview?courseID=LIB-RESRCH-IRBAPPSW&amp;deptName=LIB&amp;instanceID=000008\">Register for this workshop<\/a><br \/><span><br \/><\/span><br \/><span>This online session will discuss the use of \u201coff the shelf\u201d apps and software and \u201chomegrown\u201d apps and software when used in research with human subjects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Attendees in this session will learn about and discuss:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How to describe the app\/software when used as a tool for data collection<\/li>\n<li>How to describe the app\/software when it\u2019s being tested for usability, safety, or efficacy<\/li>\n<li>Operating system choice and the ethical principle of equitable selection and participant inclusion\/exclusion issues that arise<\/li>\n<li>If the app\/software is homegrown, what the IRB needs to know and the role of \u201cCode Review\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Information to provide to the IRB regarding the app\/software data security, data management, and user terms of the app\/software.<\/li>\n<li>Information that must be provided to participants regarding the app\/software data security, data management, and user terms of the app\/software<\/li>\n<li>Discussion end point devices used (either the participant\u2019s device, the researcher\u2019s device, or NC State University\u2019s device).<\/li>\n<li>Threshold for when the app\/software becomes a \u201cmedical device\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Discussion of the use of digital media for data collection (VR, AR, GoPro, gaming, some wearables, etc)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are no required prerequisites but completion of IRB Basics Part I is recommended.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor: Jennie Ofstein<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Register for this workshopThis online session will discuss the use of \u201coff the shelf\u201d apps and software and \u201chomegrown\u201d apps and software when used in research with human subjects.
