RALEIGH – EDJX is bringing edge computing to the battlefields.

The Raleigh-based edge computing startup will partner with Cubic Corporation to launch what the company called the “the world’s first Internet of Military Things Edge Platform.”

The platform is being launched from the Autonomy Institute Alpha Lab at Texas Military Department’s (TMD) Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas.

The initiative combines EDJX’s edge-computing platform with Cubic’s edge compute and networking platforms.

Edge computing services rely on networks that deliver data from sources closer to the user than most traditional servers.

The technologies combine to form an “end-to-end Internet of Things (IoT) solution from base to battlefield,” the companies said. The solutions will solve “immediate challenges” for the Department of Defense and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

“The goal is to reduce latency and increase the effective throughput of content for warfighters at the tactical edge,” DARPA said in a statement.

The project, said John Cowan, EDJX co-founder and CEO “ushers in the era of Industry 4.0 by bringing all of the key ingredients missing in the pursuit of mobile, intelligent, and autonomous systems development.”
