(Lumata), bringing their total investment to over half a million dollars. Lumata operates an ophthalmology care management platform dedicated to preventing blindness and supporting patients with chronic eye conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vision-health\/data-research\/vision-loss-facts\/improving-vision-for-future.html#:~:text=Graphic%20text-,Vision%20and%20eye%20problems%20are%20increasing%20as%20America%20ages.,increase%20157%25%20to%20$373%20billion.\"><strong>Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/strong><\/a>, vision and eye problems are increasing as the US population ages, affecting over 90M Americans aged 40 and older \u2014&nbsp; 60% of the over-40 population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Without effective interventions by 2050:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cases of diabetic retinopathy will rise by 72%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cataracts will increase by 87%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration will double<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vision impairment and blindness will surge by 150%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The economic burden of vision problems will soar by 157%, reaching <strong>$373B<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Lumata\u2019s human-led, intelligent eye care management platform addresses the critical challenge of preventing vision loss from chronic eye conditions like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye. Acting as a remote extension of in-clinic staff, the platform identifies and removes complex barriers to treatment adherence, enabling patients to maintain eye health. While these conditions cause irreversible damage, <a href=\"https:\/\/lumatahealth.com\/providers\/patients\/\"><strong>Lumata helps slow disease progression in 95% of cases through effective monitoring and treatments<\/strong><\/a>, including injections, surgery, laser therapy, eye drops, and oral medications \u2014 ultimately reducing the risk of blindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NC State Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering professor <a href=\"https:\/\/lumatahealth.com\/leadership-team\/\"><strong>Landon Grace<\/strong><\/a> is currently on sabbatical to focus on Lumata\u2019s growth as its CEO.
