Collaborators

We collaborate with many other centers, institutes and other research organizations, both internal and external to NC State, to leverage their complementary skills and expertise.

AERPAW 5G Technology

Ultra-fast speed meets unparalleled responsiveness. That’s the promise of fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks. Based at NC State, Aerial Experimentation and Research Platform for Advanced Wireless (AERPAW), is the first wireless research platform to study the convergence of 5G technology and autonomous drones. AERPAW is supported by Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR).

Bioinformatics Research Center (BRC)

The BRC focuses on the intersection between biology, statistics, and computer science. When the BRC was founded in 2000, it was with the understanding that quantitative methods applied to massive datasets are essential to the comprehension of the genomic structure of even the simplest organisms. The BRC boasts strong relationships with industrial partners and other academic or government organizations in the Research Triangle Park area.

Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL)

The Center for Geospatial Analytics at NC State is the foremost interdisciplinary research and teaching center of its kind in the nation. We offer the only Ph.D. program in geospatial analytics in the U.S. We work alongside top researchers, policy experts and leaders in industry to apply geospatial analytics to a host of problems — from preparing for floods to controlling the spread of invasive species.

Center for Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST)

Wearable technology can monitor an individual’s health and help prevent casualties during military training, by spotting health problems before they become critical. ASSIST focuses on creating self-powered sensing, computing, and communication systems to enable data-driven insights. ASSIST brings together researchers, practitioners, and industry partners in an ecosystem that encourages innovation with a focus on education and outreach. The center develops systems for high-value applications by integrating fundamental advances in energy harvesting, low-power electronics, and sensors with a focus on usability and actionable data.

Center for Geospatial Analytics

This groundbreaking rapid prototyping lab houses 3D printing equipment to build structures from materials like metals and advanced polymers using additive manufacturing processes.

Coastal Resilience and Sustainability Initiative

CSRI envisions a future where people, ecosystems, and economies are more resilient in the face of rapid social and environmental change.

Commercial Leap Ahead for Wide Bandgap Semiconductors (CLAWS)

CLAWS is a DOD-funded regional hub specializing in wide bandgap semiconductors, which offer higher voltage and temperature capacity than traditional silicon chips. These chips are used in power electronics, but also in RF and wireless devices for communications and radars, as well as photonic devices for sensing, communications, artificial intelligence, and future quantum technology applications. CLAWS works with its partners in higher education and industry to explore next-generation ultra-wide bandgap materials with even greater voltage and temperature capabilities, including diamond and gallium oxide electronics.

Data Science Academy

The Data Science Academy works to accelerate data-intensive discovery, teaching and service. The academy is a key enabler for increasing skills, capability and involvement by faculty, students and staff, as well as industry and government partners.

EngageAI Institute

The EngageAI Institute conducts research on narrative-centered learning technologies, embodied conversational agents, and multimodal learning analytics to create deeply engaging collaborative story-based learning experiences.

FREEDM Systems Center

The Future Renewable Electric Energy Delivery and Management (FREEDM) Systems Engineering Research Center is building a more secure, sustainable environmentally friendly electric grid.

Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE)

ITRE works across various modes of transportation to provide capacity and expertise for municipal, state, federal, and international clients to address critical transportation issues. They conduct surface and air transportation research, training, and technical support activities.

Laboratory for Analytic Sciences (LAS)

LAS is a partnership between the intelligence community and NC State that develops innovative technology and tradecraft to help solve mission-relevant problems. Founded in 2013 by the National Security Agency and NC State, each year LAS brings together collaborators from three sectors – industry, academia and government – to conduct research that has a direct impact on national security.

NC Sea Grant

NC Sea Grant works with policymakers and scientists in four focus areas: healthy coastal ecosystems, resilient communities and economies, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, and environmental literacy and workforce development.

Nonwovens Institute (NWI)

The Nonwovens Institute (NWI) is the world’s first accredited academic program for the interdisciplinary field of engineered fabrics.

PowerAmerica

PowerAmerica, a proud member of Manufacturing USA, brings together the brightest minds in the wide bandgap (WBG) semiconductor world. Semiconductor manufacturers and companies that use power semiconductors in their products are working together to accelerate the adoption of next-generation silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power electronics.

Quantum Initiative

Quantum computing, materials and information science are emerging fields that could change the world, and North Carolina is at the epicenter of this change. At NC State, our faculty are working in quantum computing, materials and networking alongside our industry and government partners to bring that quantum future to fruition.

Research Triangle Nanotechnology Network (RTNN)

A hub for nanotechnology facilities, research, and education, including a shared instrumentation facility for advanced materials characterization and imaging.

Secure Computing Institute (SCI)

The Secure Computing Institute (SCI) at NC State University is a focal point for cybersecurity research and education at the university and the broader Research Triangle Park (RTP) area. Located in the Department of Computer Science, SCI seeks to unite cybersecurity efforts throughout the university.

Textile Protection and Comfort Center (TPACC)

An academic center that incorporates the capabilities to research, test and evaluate the comfort and protective performance of textile materials, garments and ensemble systems.

Triangle Institute for Security Studies (TISS)

The Triangle Institute for Security Studies – TISS – is a cross-campus consortium dedicated to the study of national and international security. TISS is made up of four universities in North Carolina’s Research Triangle: Duke University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
