Wolfpack Investor Network Celebrates onsemi’s Acquisition of SWIR Vision Systems

Raleigh, NC July 19, 2024 — The Wolfpack Investor Network (WIN) proudly shares that onsemi (Nasdaq: ON) has acquired SWIR Vision Systems (SWIR), one of WIN’s portfolio companies

SWIR, co-founded by NC State alum and materials science engineer Allan Hilton, is a leading provider of CQD® (colloidal quantum dot-based) short wavelength infrared (SWIR) technology. Its technology extends the detectable light spectrum to see through objects and capture images that were not previously possible, thereby making SWIR an attractive acquisition.

“We are delighted to achieve this milestone and appreciate the Wolfpack Investor Network for its investment in SWIR Vision Systems,” said Co-Founder, Chief Product Officer, and NC State alum Allan Hilton. “This accomplishment demonstrates the excellence of NC State University, particularly the College of Engineering. NC State provided many SWIR team members with our educational foundation, which helped us achieve this successful exit.”

SWIR is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of ON, and SWIR’s expert team will integrate into ON’s Intelligent Sensing Group. SWIR’s team will continue to operate in North Carolina.

“We are thrilled to see SWIR reach this pivotal moment in its journey,” said WIN Director of Diligence Lisa Chang. “The acquisition not only highlights the success of WIN’s investment strategy but also showcases the incredible talent and entrepreneurial spirit fostered within the NC State community.”

SWIR’s acquisition underscores the strength of ventures emerging from NC State University.

Bill Swartz, both a WIN member and Board Member of SWIR Vision Systems, said, “onsemi’s acquisition of SWIR Vision Systems is a great outcome for all SWIR stakeholders and NC State in particular. It’s been fantastic to see WIN and NC State provide meaningful support to its alumni in early-stage companies through investment and educational excellence.”

WIN, a member-based investment group composed of NC State alumni, staff, parents, and supporters, focuses on advancing NC State university-based technology companies and affiliates. SWIR marks the latest of several successful exits by WIN portfolio companies.
