Historical Timeline

Take a scroll through the major milestones in the ERA project's history.

  • ERA Steering Team approves Project Charter. The Project Management team would begin taking shape soon after.

  • Requirements gathering team solicits feedback from campus stakeholder groups, including principal investigators, associate deans for research, college research offices and more.

  • Requests for Proposals (RFP) officially released. The final RFP included more than 200 requirements — which were developed according to the diverse needs of all stakeholder groups.

  • On-campus vendor demos take place. Of the six vendors that met all of the RFP’s critical requirements, three were selected as finalists and invited to Raleigh.

  • InfoEd Global selected as software vendor. InfoEd has been on the leading edge of ERA systems for over 30 years — since it released SPIN, the world’s first search engine for finding research funding opportunities.

  • Our ERA system gets its own name — the Research Enterprise Data (RED) system. RED will eventually consist of six modules and replace the legacy systems PINS and RADAR, as well as NC State’s homegrown research compliance software.

  • RED debuts its first module — Animal Care and Use (IACUC). Prior to this module’s implementation, all of the IACUC Office’s processes were managed through disparate Word documents and email.

  • Conflict of Interest (COI) module launches. The module, which is now known as the Conflict of Interest/Commitment (COI/COC) module, houses both the Financial Interest disclosure and External Professional Activity request forms.

  • Proposal Tracking (PT) and Post Award Management (PAM) modules Go Live. PT/PAM work in tandem with the Sponsored Research Activity Reporting (SRAR) viewer in place of the legacy system RADAR.

  • Phased Rollout of Proposal Development (PD) module begins. PD will replace PINS and round out RED’s suite of Sponsored Programs modules.
