Abstract: Embryonic development requires the accurate regulation of biological events across multiple spatial and temporal scales. In this talk, I will discuss how the cell cycle is timed accurately during development of Drosophila embryos. I will focus on two separate problems: the synchronization of the early embryonic cell cycles through the rapid propagation of waves of Cdk1 activity and the mechanisms of regulation of the cell cycle during Drosophila gastrulation.
