Launch Date Set for First Sponsored Programs Modules: What You Need to Know

The RED system's first Sponsored Programs modules are set to debut next month.

The Proposal Tracking (PT) functionality of the Proposals module and the Post Award Management module are scheduled to launch Aug. 7.

Get ready, RADAR users. The first Sponsored Programs modules of the Research Enterprise Data (RED) system are set to launch soon.

The Proposals and Post Award Management (PAM) modules will launch in August 2023. The Proposal Tracking (PT) functionality of the Proposals module and PAM will work with the Sponsored Research Activity Reporting (SRAR) system, powered by SAS Visual Analytics, to replace RADAR.

Here’s what you need to know.

Launch Timeline

PT/PAM are scheduled to launch campuswide on Aug. 7, at which point RADAR will be retired. The central offices will stop entering transactions into RADAR shortly before its retired so that final data migration into RED can take place.

RADAR will be temporarily offline, from 5 p.m. Thursday, July 27 through Monday, July 31, and then remain available in view-only mode for several days while final data migration occurs; users will be able to retrieve historical information (entered prior to July 27, 2023) only.

A beta version of SRAR is currently available — and will remain online throughout implementation.

To recap:

  • July 28-31: RADAR temporarily offline
  • Aug. 1-6: RADAR view-only
  • Aug. 7: New modules go live campuswide; RADAR retired

RED vs. SRAR

You may be wondering which system you’ll need to use to get the data you’re used to finding in RADAR.

RED will include all data needed for pre-award, post-award, audit and public-records request purposes. SRAR will include all data from both RADAR (historical) and RED (active).

If you need to look up information about individual projects you’re associated with, you’ll be able to search for records in RED by sponsor, PI name, ledger-5 account number and more.

However, to compare information from multiple projects or generate reports based on aggregated data, you’ll need to visit SRAR. SRAR will support trend reporting, including date-limited and multi-year reports.

Training

Our RED Training Manager has been holding hands-on training sessions with central office staff since early June. Throughout August and into the fall semester, a mix of in-person and virtual (via Zoom) sessions will be held — open to anyone on campus who uses RADAR.

Two types of sessions are available: one titled, “Locating and Navigating Records” that only covers how to ‘query’ — locate records from individual projects — in RED; and one titled “Locating and Reporting on Project Data for Leadership and Admin” that covers both how to look up data in RED as well as how to use SRAR.

To attend, you simply need to register in REPORTER at least five days prior to each session (in order to allow time for the tech team to set up your access in the test environment).

Training will also be available on-demand at go.ncsu.edu/red-sp-training. Those who need further assistance can email red-training@ncsu.edu or call the SPARCS Helpline, at 919.515.4267, for a more immediate response during normal business hours.

More Information

In case you’re curious, PINS will continue to serve as the university’s proposal routing system until the eventual implementation of RED’s Proposal Development (PD) module. Cayuse 424 will also remain available to campus users until the PD module has been implemented.
