Mass Spectrometry

The Mass Spectrometry Core Lab is part of the Molecular Education, Technology and Research Innovation Center (METRIC) at NC State University, which is supported by the State of North Carolina. Our goal is to provide expert analytical services to North Carolina State University researchers at a cost-effective rate using state-of-the-art instrumentation. Our mass spectrometry staff have more than 100 years of combined experience encompassing almost every sub-discipline of the science. In addition, we are committed to staying abreast of recent developments in the field and incorporating them into our practices as necessary. Our group is involved in many publications each year that push the
limits of mass spectrometry-based chemical identification and quantitation.

While we offer some self-use instrumentation (e.g., MALDI-TOF MS and GC-MS) our facility is mainly operated by highly qualified personnel that can help you with experimental design and sample preparation as well as subsequent mass analysis. Low-cost instrumentation usage is based on an hourly rate as is advanced data interpretation for some of the more complex datasets (e.g.,
proteomics and metabolomics). Additionally, we are always available for consultation on any mass spectrometry-based projects or opportunities at no cost.
