My current project investigates the role of stress in the development of nerve-injury induced pain. We hypothesize that stress worsens nerve-injury associated pain through glucocorticoid-glucocorticoid receptor interaction in sensory neurons. I will discuss and present data showing how stress affects sensory neuron growth in vitro and in vivo, as well as gene expression in sensory neurons after stress and injury that support our hypothesis.
