TRPV4 ion channels, the first mammalian “osmo-mechano”-TRP, have been around for almost 2 decades. They are clearly involved in pain signaling, more recent evidence also suggesting a role in itch. Pathophysiological concepts will be illustrated as well as therapeutic approaches.
