NIH Summer Writing Workshop

Each year the PDU hosts a summer writing workshop to support early stage faculty applying to NIH grants.

Summer 2022 – Writing Your First R01

August 4-5, 2022

This two-day workshop was designed for early career faculty considering their first NIH R01 proposal. Day 1 was informational, including an overview of the NIH, a breakdown of R01 opportunities, a discussion of writing strategies and overview of the review process. Day 2 was for individuals who had started applications, and wanted a hands-on opportunity to work through their application components: biosketches, specific aims, and budget.  See links to the recording and slides below.

Day 1 Guest Presenter: Dr. Jerrold Heindel

Dr. Heindel served as a Program Officer for over 24 years at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. He has broad scientific interests in the impacts of endocrine disrupting chemicals on human health, especially on development and metabolic disorders. He currently serves as Director for the Healthy Environment and Endocrine Disruptor Strategies (HEEDS) Program, of Commonweal.org, and holds an adjunct faculty appointment at NC State University.

This Writing Workshop was brought to you by the Proposal Development Unit of the NC State Research Development Office, in collaboration with the College of Sciences, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Genomics and Genetics Academy. For more information, please contact Molly Puente.
