Alyson Wilson Named Associate Vice Chancellor
Dr. Alyson Wilson has been appointed to Associate Vice Chancellor for National Security and Special Research Initiatives starting January 1, 2020.
The Associate Vice Chancellor for National Security and Special Research Initiatives leads the NC State Data Sciences Initiative (DSI), the Laboratory for Analytical Sciences (LAS), and the National Laboratories Initiative. She and her team will also be charged with strategic research development around national defense initiatives.
Wilson’s work with NC State has already brought great success around data research through her work leading DSI and LAS, and we anticipate further positive momentum across the range of special research and national security initiatives.
Dr. Wilson also serves as a professor in the Department of Statistics in the College of Sciences. She is a fellow of the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Prior to her time at NC State, Dr. Wilson was a Research Staff Member at the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute in Washington, D.C. She has also served as an associate professor of statistics at Iowa State University and a technical staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratory, in addition to stints doing analysis for the NIH and serving as a senior statistician in the private sector doing DOD testing and evaluation.
Dr. Wilson received her Ph.D. in Statistics from Duke University, her M.S. in Statistics from Carnegie-Mellon University, and her B.A. in Mathematical Sciences from Rice University. She is the author of numerous publications and has co-authored the book Bayesian Reliability, and has co-edited two other books, Statistical Methods in Counterterrorism: Game Theory, Modeling, Syndromic Surveillance, and Biometric Authentication and Modern Statistical and Mathematical Methods in Reliability.
