Hundreds of NC State University Faculty Identified Among Top 2% of Research Scientists

The data was based on how many citations a researcher had received rather than their number of peer-reviewed publications.

NC State is home to hundreds of the top-cited research scientists on the planet, according to data compiled by Stanford University.

“We’re extremely proud of the contributions each and every one of these accomplished researchers have made to their fields,” says Mladen Vouk, vice chancellor of research and innovation at NC State. “This data is further testament to the impact NC State research has on a global scale.”

The Elsevier Data Repository published the annual report in October, identifying the world’s top 100,000 research scientists — which included nearly 300 current or former faculty at NC State. These 100,000 scientists represent the top 2% of researchers around the globe, according to the data.

The various disciplines represented by NC State researchers included agriculture, animal science, artificial intelligence, citizen science, epidemiology, electrical engineering, forensic anthropology, forestry, genetics, marine biology, materials science, physics, political science, psychology, natural resources and more.

The data was based on how many citations a researcher had received rather than their number of peer-reviewed publications, so as to focus on impact instead of productivity.
