Open-Access Agreements Offered by NC State University Libraries
In response to the recent push from the U.S. government to make federally funded research free to read, the NC State University Libraries has entered into several agreements that allow NC State authors to publish their articles in open-access journals without paying an additional charge.
Through these agreements, NC State authors can publish open-access articles in Annual Reviews, Cambridge University Press and hundreds of the hybrid journals published by Wiley, as well as in other peer-reviewed publications — without having to pay a processing fee themselves.
Open-access publishing models provide unrestricted access to peer-reviewed articles to the public for free, sometimes by charging authors an article processing fee.
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy announced in August that beginning Jan. 1, 2026, the results of all federally funded research should be free to read as soon as they’re published.
