- Time: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Location: Friday Institute for Educational Innovation | 1890 Main Campus Dr, Raleigh, NC 27606
Goals
- AI Awareness: Improving understanding of AI institutional strengths, resources, and opportunities.
- Professional Development: Build faculty capability to integrate AI meaningfully into research proposals.
- Faculty Team Readiness: Increase NC State’s readiness to compete for large-scale AI opportunities by improving proposal quality, team formation, and cross-domain collaboration.
NC State has AI strengths across the institution. In this initial convening, we collaborated with college ADRs to identify priority focus areas for AI-enabled research development:
- AI + Education: AI is reshaping education by creating new opportunities to responsibly enhance teaching, learning, and research. This vertical focuses on improving educational outcomes and advancing understanding of how AI can transform educational practices.
- AI + Discovery Science: Across fundamental and applied scientific research, AI is accelerating scientific discovery. This vertical supports both the study and improvement of the tools themselves, as well as the application of the tools to digest and understand data in increasingly complex ways.
- AI + Manufacturing: AI enables digitally connected, adaptive, and scalable manufacturing systems. This vertical integrates AI/ML, robotics, and advanced sensing, while emphasizing energy and resource efficiency along with environmental and human-centered design.
- AI + Society: AI is increasingly becoming an important part of the fabric of social life. This vertical examines how AI tools themselves are communicating, learning from, advising and collaborating with people, as well as the application of the AI tools affects real life employment prospects and (mental) health of an increasing number of individuals.
We look forward to your participation. If you have questions about the workshop, please contact Interdisciplinary Project Launch Director, Lauren Maynard.
