Assistant Vice Chancellor Wade Fulghum to Leave NC State

Wade Fulghum, assistant vice chancellor of new ventures and investments, is leaving the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) to accept an opportunity with the nonprofit organization NCInnovation, which helps advance inventions toward commercialization by funding and supporting public university research discoveries that show commercial promise.

Fulghum has worked for ORI’s Office of Research Commercialization since 2011 and has been with NC State since 2007.

“Wade’s initiative and influence has led to tremendous success for our university during his time here,” says Alyson Wilson, interim vice chancellor for research and innovation. “I’m incredibly thankful for all of the work he’s put in with NC State inventors over the years to help them commercialize their research, which has earned the university national acclaim for our strengths in technology transfer.”

NC State consistently ranks among the nation’s top three universities without medical schools for both the number of startups launched and the number of active licenses or options.

Some of Fulghum’s accomplishments throughout his tenure include bringing a National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps program, followed by an NSF Mid-Atlantic Hub, to NC State; co-founding the Wolfpack Investor Network (WIN); and chairing the North Carolina Small Business Technology Development Center (SBTDC) Research Triangle Advisory Board and statewide SBTDC Advisory Board. He has also helped us serve in a mentor capacity to Clemson University under an NSF Accelerating Research Translation (ART) award, which has catalyzed and deepened the partnerships and collaborations between our two land-grant universities.

Wade Fulghum, MBA

Fulghum currently serves on the Council for Economic Development’s board of directors and is an honorary member of the National Academy of Inventors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Florida and an MBA from Hawaii Pacific University. A U.S. Army veteran, Fulghum was awarded three Army Achievement Medals and three Medals of Commendation, and he was also selected as the 25th Infantry Division’s noncommissioned officer (NCO) of the year.

Tim Martin will serve as interim assistant vice chancellor of new ventures and investments until the position is permanently filled.
