Bio

As the Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor of the Office of Technology Licensing at NC State, Brian leads the strategic commercialization of the university’s diverse research portfolio, overseeing a high-performing team that manages over 200 annual invention disclosures and 80 new patent filings.

A licensed California attorney with a background in Materials Engineering, Brian has spent over a decade at NC State navigating the complexities of IP protection, startup formation, and industry engagement. His leadership has been key in driving ~$8M in annual licensing and reimbursement revenue and facilitating the launch of 14–18 new startups each year.

Throughout his tenure, he has led negotiations on behalf of NC State in hundreds of  agreements, while serving as a key advisor on federally and industry-sponsored research compliance. This unique blend of legal expertise and technical fluency allows him to help bridge the gap between academic discovery and market-ready innovation.

In his free time Brian enjoys endurance events like marathons, ultramarathons, and triathlons.
