Brian Eller, J.D.
Assistant Director of Licensing, Physical Sciences
As Assistant Director of Licensing, Physical Sciences, Brian leads a team of licensing professionals focused on commercializing innovations in the physical sciences. He also personally manages a select portfolio of inventions arising from the Wilson College of Textiles, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, the Nonwovens Institute, and the College of Natural Resources. In addition, he also manages a portfolio of traditional copyrights, which arise under NC State’s Copyright Policy.
Brian has been with ORC since 2011 and has negotiated and drafted a wide variety of contractual agreements, such as exclusive and non-exclusive licensing agreements, assignments, option agreements, inter-institutional agreements, material transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, sponsored research agreements and institutional bylaws among others. He has had responsibility for the entire technology transfer life cycle, from soliciting and protecting the initial intellectual property, to marketing and identifying a licensee, along with negotiating, executing and diligently monitoring the license agreement to ensure compliance and finally assisting the licensee to find the resources to succeed and commercialize the underlying intellectual property. Brian has a proven track record of success and has been entrusted with increasing levels of responsibility throughout his career.
Brian earned a B.S. in Materials Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a J.D. from University of California, Davis School of Law. Brian is also a member of the State Bar of California and is licensed as an attorney in California.
In his free time Brian enjoys running, especially marathons and ultramarathons; one time he even completed a 100-mile race (it took a while).
