Garland Promoted to Senior Associate Vice Chancellor
Garland has been with the Office of Research and Innovation since 2016.
Genevieve Garland has been promoted to senior associate vice chancellor for research development and operations. She also remains chief of staff for the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI). Garland served as associate vice chancellor for research operations for the past three years.
In her new role, Garland now leads the Proposal Development Unit and the university’s Shared Core Research Facilities; administers seed funding and manages research infrastructure; and has oversight of centers and institutes. Additionally, she will continue to oversee strategic planning, operations and interdisciplinary research services for faculty teams, as well as the development of research-focused education and training programs. Garland also retains the responsibility of promoting NC State’s activity and reputation in research and innovation.
Garland joined the Office of Research and Innovation in 2016, as director for research operations. She was promoted to assistant vice chancellor and chief of staff in 2019 before rising to associate vice chancellor in 2022. Garland has 20 years of experience across NC State’s research enterprise — including over 15 years building strategic partnerships, first as the director of partnership and market intelligence for the Nonwovens Institute and later as a partnership developer for the Office of Partnerships and Economic Development.
Garland holds a Ph.D. in textile technology management, a master’s in textiles, and a bachelor’s in textile and apparel technology and management, all from NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles (WCOT). Since 2014, she’s also served as an adjunct associate professor in WCOT.
