2023 University Research Symposium

Date: March 27th and 28th, 2023
Location: James B. Hunt Library, Duke Energy Hall

The 2023 University Research Symposium was hosted by the Office of Research and Innovation in collaboration with the Research Leadership Academy and Data Science Academy. This symposium was focused on the topic of Putting Data Science into Practice: Emerging Role of AI in Research and featured a special guest speaker, panel focused on the AI Bill of Rights, faculty lightning round presentations, facilitated discussions and networking opportunities.

Faculty from across the university highlighted the many ways NC State’s research, teaching and outreach work address the impacts of data science and artificial intelligence.

The annual University Research Symposium aims to introduce researchers and scholars to one another — providing a space for them to explore opportunities for new partnerships and envision the future of research at NC State.

NSF Centers

Date: February 8, 2023
Location: Plant Sciences Building, Seminar Room

During this event participants had a chance to engage with a panel of Center Directors to learn more about the currently funded NSF Centers at NC State and gain more awareness of the steps one can take to successfully position themselves and their team to win a large center-type grant themselves.

Exploring External Awards

Date: November 30, 2022
Location: via Zoom Webinar

During this event, participants will have a chance to engage with a group of panelists who have experience identifying, submitting and successfully acquiring external faculty awards. Audience members will participate in an interactive discussion on the challenges faculty face as they work to increase the number of external faculty awards in their portfolio.

The Office of Research and Innovation is excited to bring you a faculty forum event hosted by the Research Leadership Academy (RLA). During this event participants had a chance to engage with a group of panelists who have had success in working on and/or marketing triumphs in the broader impact of research.

2022 Equity Research Symposium

Date: February 8th, 2022
Location: Talley Student Union & via Zoom Webinar

Partners from across NC State are coming together in 2022 to share and catalyze new cutting-edge, equity-focused and equity-relevant research. The university’s first Equity Research Symposium will contemplate the question: “what does equity mean to me?” throughout the day. The event will feature panel presentations, lightning sessions, poster presentations, round table discussions and a keynote lecture by Raj Chetty.

2021 Junior Faculty Forum

Date: September 28th, 2021
Location: via Zoom Webinar

During this event, participants will have a chance to engage with a group of panelists who represent different stages of the faculty tenure career path. Audience members will participate in an interactive discussion on the challenges junior faculty will face as they continue on in their research careers.

2021 University Research Symposium

Date: March 22nd, 23rd, and 25th, 2021

The University Research Symposium provides a forum for cross-college networking and seeks to promote collaboration across disciplines and colleges. The purpose of this event is to introduce researchers and scholars to each other, to explore opportunities for new partnerships, and to envision the future of research at NC State.

This year’s focus will be on Climate Change and Resilience.

RLA Lunch and Learn: Prospects, Opportunities, and Challenges with Foundation Grants for Research and Scholarship

During this lunch and learn, participants will learn how foundation grants work in different disciplines and across colleges, receive general background information on the types of foundation grants and how to obtain them, and hear from a panel of experts how these grants can benefit you in your career.

RLA Forum: Communicating Your Research

In this forum, participants will have the opportunity to question a panel of faculty and university communicators and learn how to push through the barriers to telling their research stories.

RLA Junior Faculty Forum

Date: September 24th, 2019
Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Hunt Library, Duke Energy Halls B&C

In this forum, participants will have the opportunity to question a panel of senior faculty and university leaders about their concerns and challenges as junior faculty in today’s research environment. Some of the topics we expect to cover include: when to say yes/no, grant writing, advising and mentoring students, work-life balance, publishing, navigating peer review, collaboration, committee work and finding mentors.

University Research Symposium

The goal of the University Research Symposium is to introduce research scholars to each other, and to promote opportunities for new partnerships.
