Dr. Marnie Metzler Named NC State’s New University Attending Veterinarian
Dr. Metzler, DVM, Ph.D., DACLAM was named NC State’s University Attending Veterinarian on Dec. 18, after serving in the role on an interim basis for two years prior.
Dr. Marnie Metzler, DVM, became NC State’s new University Attending Veterinarian on Monday, Dec. 18. Dr. Metzler had been serving as NC State’s Attending Vet on an interim basis since 2021.
As part of this transition, the Attending Vet now reports to NC State’s Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Mladen Vouk.
“This marks an important milestone for NC State in the context of animal well-being and clinical care of animals,” Vouk says. “Dr. Metzler is an outstanding professional, and we are thrilled to have her join the Office of Research and Innovation.”
University Attending Veterinarians are responsible for the well-being and clinical care of animals used in research, testing, teaching and production; their goal is to simultaneously support animal research and advocate for the animals used in that research.
“NC State is a leader in innovative translational research, which can create life-changing benefits for animals, humans and our environment,” Dr. Metzler says. “In my new role, I am excited to continue working to advocate for and advance the care of the furry, feathery and scaly animals that help make much of NC State’s research and teaching possible.”
Dr. Metzler first joined NC State as a clinical veterinarian in the College of Veterinary Medicine; prior to that, she held various roles in the private sector, including four and a half years as the attending veterinarian and veterinary program manager at Atrium Health, in Charlotte.
Dr. Metzler received her DVM from NC State University in 2012. She also holds a Ph.D. in Integrated Physiology/Pharmacology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Metzler is an active diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine.
