Abdulkerim Eroglu, assistant professor in the Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at NCSU, has been awarded an Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) competitive grant by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) for the fiscal year 2022. In collaboration with METRIC scientists Taufika Islam Williams, Senior Research Scholar and Leonard Collins, Research Assistant, a tandem mass tag (TMT) – based quantification method for protein interrogation in normal human colonic epithelial cells under differential carotenoid treatments was developed. The study objective is to determine the impact of carotenoids on obesity-associated gut dysfunction. The workflow employed a bottom-up proteomics approach, using METRIC’s Thermo Scientific EASY nanoLC-1200 interfaced with a Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris 480 mass spectrometer for data acquisition and Thermo Scientific Proteome Discoverer software for data workup.
