Hi-Throughput DNA Isolation
LGC oKtopure
The oKtopure™ is a fully automated nucleic acid extraction platform that combines high-throughput automation with the proprietary sbeadex™ magnetic bead based extraction chemistry for high quality, high yield extraction.
Key to the delivery of consistently high quality and high yield DNA preparations from the oKtopure is its ability to bind and hold the magnetic beads with the DNA in place while transferring the buffers required for washing, binding and elution steps. The final aqueous wash used in the sbeadex extraction protocols enables the delivery of nucleic preparations ideal for downstream applications such as SNP genotyping and NGS and Sanger sequencing.
KingFisher Flex
The Thermo Scientific KingFisher Flex is a versatile benchtop automated extraction instrument in the lab for 24 or 96 samples per run. It offers consistent medium- to high-throughput extraction and purification of DNA, RNA, proteins, and cells.
DNA/RNA Sample QC
Services Available at Main GSL Facility (Thomas Hall)
Agilent 4200 Tapestation
The GSL offers DNA sample QC on Agilent’s newest TapeStation 4200 platform. This instrument performs size and integrity analysis (QC) and quantification of nucleic acids. Instead of chips, the TapeStation system uses credit card-sized, disposable Agilent ScreenTape available for RNA, DNA (up to 10kb) or High Molecular Weight DNA (up to 60 kb).
Services Available at the Plant Genotyping Facility (PSB)
Agilent 4200 Tapestation
The Genotyping lab also operates an Agilent 4200 TapeStation, performing size/integrity analysis and quantification of DNA samples. QC options are available for RNA, DNA (up to 10kb), and High Molecular Weight DNA (up to 60 kb).
ThermoFisher Fluoroskan System
The Genotyping lab utilizes a Thermo Fluoroskan fluorometric plate reader for high-throughput PicoGreen quantification of DNA samples.

Blue Pippin Size Selection
Sage BluePippin
The BluePippin is an electrophoresis platform capable of size-selecting DNA fragments and automatically collects the fractions in buffer according to the user-specified size range. With up to 5 samples per run, it is commonly used to size-select next generation sequencing libraries. It is capable of performing narrow size selections from 50bp to 50kb within a few hours. Customers may drop off samples to be run by GSL personnel at either the Main GSL facility (Thomas Hall, Central Campus) or the Plant Genotyping Facility (Plant Sciences Building, Centennial Campus). Requests for this service are made through our Online Submission System.
