IRB Workshops Offered Through the NC State University Libraries

While our synchronous Zoom workshops have concluded for the spring semester, the asynchronous workshops are available throughout the summer term. Fall 2026 workshop listings will be posted and open for registration on REPORTER mid-to-late August 2026.

All synchronous IRB workshops are exclusively online for the accessibility, convenience, and safety of all involved. Cameras are required to be on and active participation is expected throughout the duration of the synchronous workshop. Recording of any sort (including use of AI tools) of any IRB workshop is strictly forbidden. Attempting to do so will result in immediate removal from the workshop.

Please only register for workshop times/dates when you can be fully present to participate the entire time. We strive to make all IRB workshops accessible. If there are accommodations that would improve your experience at one of the workshops you’ve registered for, please get in touch with the IRB office and the Disability Resource Office at NC State University at least 10 business days in advance so that we can work together to meet your access needs.

  • Introductory level workshops are perfect for those who are completely new to IRB processes in general or at NC State. These workshops are also for people who might’ve submitted an IRB application before (at NC State or elsewhere) but find the process daunting. These workshops are designed to turn your uncertainty into comfort with general IRB concepts and how those are operationalized at NC State.

    • IRB Basics Part 3B: Non-Exempt IRB Applications

  • Advanced topical workshops skip the basics and move into advanced applications. They are fast-paced and assume a working knowledge of introductory IRB concepts that are covered in our IRB Basics workshops. If you are already comfortable with IRB processes but want to dive deeper into advanced applications, the topical workshops are a good fit for you. Note: Students are not able to register for the advanced topical workshops without completing prerequisite training.

Watching an IRB workshop means that you will be notified via email by REPORTER when a new workshop session is scheduled and open for enrollment. It does not mean that you will be automatically registered for the workshop.

IRB Drop-In Virtual Office Hours

Have questions about an IRB application you’re working on submitting? Wondering if you need to apply to the IRB? Do you want to do collaborative research with someone who isn’t at NC State and don’t know how IRB approval would work?

Bimonthly during the Fall and Spring semesters, the NC State IRB offers virtual office hours on Zoom where you’ll be able to meet with IRB staff individually, discuss any questions you have, and receive targeted guidance. All sessions are first-come, first-served, with a meeting waiting room enabled to facilitate the process. There is sometimes a wait to meet with IRB staff during office hours.

Upcoming dates, times, and passcodes are posted to the IRB office hours information sheet linked below. Each office hours meeting has its own meeting passcode which you need to enter to access the office hours. You will need your Unity ID and password to view the IRB office hours information sheet.
