NC State Research Compliance Training for Unaffiliated Individuals
These instructions are for individuals who are not formally affiliated with NC State (e.g., not a student, staff member, faculty, or an unpaid appointee) who do not have a Unity ID but need to take research compliance-related training courses to satisfy an NC State compliance requirement.

I do not yet have a Brickyard Account. How do I create one?
Once the Research Compliance Team identifies that an unaffiliated individual is required to complete Research Compliance Training, they will establish the necessary Brickyard Account. To establish this account, they will need the personal email address you would like to use to receive notifications concerning training.
Note: If you are taking a course delivered by REPORTER, this is the only account you will need. You can Log into https://reporter.ncsu.edu/ using your assigned Brickyard Login and complete the assigned courses. I do not have a CITI account. How do I create one?
Register
- Go to CITI Program Registration Page
- Click on Select Your Organization Affiliation (Note, in order to ensure you are taking the correct CITI course and get credit for completion, you must have an affiliation with NC State’s CITI Account)
- In the Text Box, Type “North Carolina State University”. You will see two options to select from. Select the first item “North Carolina State University“. Note: The SSO option is not available to unaffiliated individuals.
- Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
- Affirm that you are an affiliate of North Carolina State University
- Then select Create a CITI Program Account
- Complete the CITI instructions to establish your account. Note: Please use the same email associated with your Brickyard Account for your CITI Registration.
Enroll
- Once you are logged in to CITI, click the View Courses button next to the university name.
- Scroll down to the Learner Tools for North Carolina State University box, and click Add a Course.
- You will be presented a list of courses you can take. You should select the course the Research Compliance Staff have indicated is required.
- Once all questions have been answered, click Submit. The system will enroll you in the associated course(s).
I have a CITI account but it is not yet affiliated with NC State. How do I affiliate the account with NC State?
Note: A CITI account can be affiliated with multiple institutions. In order to take an NC State course, you will need to affiliate your existing account with NC State as well as any additional affiliations you may have.
Affiliate
- Log into your existing CITI Account.
- In the Top right section (Under “Welcome, Your Name”), select Add Institutional Affiliation
- In the Text box type “North Carolina State University”
- Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
- Affirm that you are an affiliate of North Carolina State University
- Complete the CITI instructions to affiliate your account with NC State. Note: Please use the same email associated with your Brickyard Account for your CITI Registration.
